Article marketing, also known as “bum marketing“, is probably the best free way to promote a website. Essentially, all you do is write an article and submit it to an article-directory. In return for delivering fresh content to the directory, you get a backlink. At the end of each article that you submit, you get to place one or two links of your choosing in the so-called “resource box”.
This gives you a great opportunity to invite people to your own website where you are promoting affiliate products or your own products. But perhaps you’re wondering, if it wouldn’t be better to publish the articles on your own website, instead of writing them for someone else’s website.

Essentially, article marketing allows you to place your content in front of the large stream of visitors and “steal” some of the article directory’s traffic. With good article marketing, you can get more backlinks and more exposure for your own website. That’s what article marketing is all about.
Of course, more articles on more websites means more exposure to traffic and more backlinks. Luckily, it’s an allowed and common practice to publish an article on more than one directory. This way, you can get extra benefit from each article to write.
